Experience & Qualifications
My work is rooted in many years of training, both in classical osteopathic education and in more subtle, developmental approaches that support the whole person.
About Oliver Cox
I am Oliver Cox, a qualified osteopath with over 20 years of clinical experience, working with adults, children, and families. My work is rooted in a gentle, patient-centred approach that takes time to understand the whole person rather than focusing solely on isolated symptoms.
I trained and have worked within both traditional osteopathic and more subtle, cranial-based approaches, allowing treatment to be adapted to the individual needs of each person. Appointments are unhurried and shaped by careful listening, presence, and respect for the body’s natural capacity to find balance and ease.
A calm, considered approach
People often come to see me when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why symptoms are persisting. Rather than forcing change, my work supports the body and nervous system to settle, reorganise, and respond in its own time.
This approach is particularly suitable for those who value a quieter form of care, including people experiencing long-standing pain, stress-related symptoms, or those who feel sensitive to more forceful treatment styles.
Experience and professional background
Alongside over two decades of clinical practice, I continue to refine my work through ongoing professional development and reflection. My training allows me to work safely with a wide range of presentations, always within the scope of osteopathic practice and with respect for individual needs and circumstances.
Why “The Family Osteopath”
The practice is called The Family Osteopath because this gentle, person-centred approach is suitable for people of all ages. While I work with children and families, the name also reflects an ethos of care that is inclusive, respectful, and attentive to the whole person at any stage of life.
An Invitation
If you are curious about cranial osteopathy or are looking for an approach that values presence, understanding, and time, you are welcome to get in touch to explore whether this way of working is right for you.
I often work with people whose symptoms feel complex or have not responded as hoped to other approaches, particularly where there is a sense that the whole picture has not yet been fully understood.
Qualifications
Osteopathic Degree
I hold a B.Ost degree in Osteopathy from the University College of Osteopathy in London, where I trained in structural, functional, and holistic approaches to patient care.
Craniosacral Osteopathic Qualifications
I have completed extensive postgraduate training with the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy (SCCO), including the M1, M2, and M5 courses — deepening my understanding of the gentle cranial approach and its application across all ages.
Bio-dynamic Osteopathic Qualifications
Over the course of 11 years, I completed all Bio-dynamic Phases I–IX, studying with James Jealous in the USA and in Europe, as well as completing the three paediatric phases.
This long, immersive training has profoundly shaped the way I understand the subtle movements of health within the body and how the system reorganises around health.
Yoga Teacher Qualifications
I am also a fully qualified yoga teacher, having trained with Prananavi Yoga. This background supports my appreciation of breath, movement, and awareness — and complements the restorative osteopathic work I do in clinic.
