Osteopathy for Adults

Although cranial osteopathy is often associated with babies and pregnancy, I work with adults every day using these gentle, listening-based techniques. Each week, I support around 20–30 adults who are looking for a calmer, more integrative approach to osteopathic care.

For many people, this offers an alternative to more forceful or symptom-focused styles of treatment — particularly when those approaches have not led to lasting change.

If you have been receiving the same type of treatment repeatedly without sustained improvement, it may be that the deeper, underlying patterns within the system have not yet been addressed.

Cranial osteopathy works by listening to the whole person and supporting the body’s own capacity to resolve the patterns that give rise to symptoms, rather than focusing on symptoms alone.

The approach is gentle, but its effects can be profound.

Osteopathy for Pregnancy & Post-Natal Care

Pregnancy places unique and evolving demands on the body. Some women move through this time with relative ease, while others experience changes in posture, comfort, balance, or overall well-being that can feel challenging or unfamiliar.

Following birth, the body is recovering from an extraordinary process. As tissues, systems, and rhythms adjust, it can take time to settle and reorganise. Osteopathy offers gentle, supportive care during both pregnancy and the post-natal period, helping the body adapt, unwind, and find balance in its own time.

If you would like to discuss whether osteopathy may be helpful for you during pregnancy or after your baby arrives, I would be very happy to talk things through with you.

In recent years, it has been a real pleasure to work closely with Jane Radley at the Gables Breastfeeding Clinic.

Jane is exceptional in her field — highly knowledgeable, deeply experienced, and wonderfully calm in her approach. For families experiencing feeding difficulties, I regularly recommend her care. When appropriate, combining her support with gentle osteopathic treatment can be a very effective way of supporting both newborn babies and new mothers through the early weeks.

In 2018, I joined the Baby Check Clinic in Bath, working one day a week alongside a highly experienced team of osteopaths. During this time, I treated between 15 and 18 babies and mothers each week, with a wide range of presentations. This work provided invaluable clinical experience and played an important role in shaping my approach to treating babies and mothers.

Although I no longer work at the clinic following the COVID period, I continue to support mothers and babies across my other clinics.

The Baby Check Clinic website also contains published research on clinical outcomes for both mothers and babies, which many parents find reassuring when considering care.

How Osteopathy Can Support Babies and Children

Few births are entirely straightforward. It’s natural for parents to seek reassurance that their baby is settling well in the early weeks and months of life. During this time, babies undergo significant changes as they adapt to life outside the womb — feeding, digestion, sleep, and self-soothing can all be affected. Cranial osteopathy can offer gentle support as babies adjust to these early transitions.

Parents often have a strong intuitive sense when something doesn’t feel quite right for their child. You may notice changes in sleep, behaviour, comfort, or overall wellbeing. An osteopathic assessment can help explore how your child’s system is adapting and what may be making this process more difficult.

Osteopaths are first-contact practitioners, trained to assess patients of any age. Our role is to understand why challenges are occurring and why they may not be resolving naturally, by looking at the whole child rather than focusing on symptoms alone.

As reflected in the Baby Check research, many parents report positive outcomes from osteopathic care for their children, along with a sense of relief as their baby begins to settle and thrive.
